Road Trip!

Okay, learned a couple of lessons this weekend.

First of all, even at my advanced age, road trips are still a hoot! We drove down to Bakersfield on Saturday and returned Sunday… 30 hours in the car! Besides a killer sinus infection from the constant air conditioning, I fared pretty well…

We had dinner in Bakersfield at the Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace. It was pretty cool, live music (as my buddy said, “They have both kinds, country AND western!”) played by Buck Owens’ son and his band. Lot of great oldies…Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, etc.

They also served the best “Skillet Licker” Chicken Fried Steak dinner I’ve ever had. Then back to the motel to watch Star Wars III on cable before turning in.

We, of course, hit every In-N-Out Burger we would find along I5 and made a couple of other important stops…

Returned home with new puppies for the kennel and some great memories. Still, the last hundred miles of a trip like that makes you wonder what you were thinking!

PS- Oh, and I’m not supposed to mention that we stopped at a casino along the way and “donated” $20 each to the local enconomy. Could have saved ourselves some time by just rolling down a window and tossing out some cash as we drove by…

You forgot to mention that you would have had a better chance to get some of it back doing that as well.
